To suit 38mm Turbosmart wastegates. This flange has an internal recess of 9mm so the 38mm tube can slide into the flange.
This makes it both easier to fit during the fabrication process and provides a much stronger connection than you would have with a typical butt-welded type of connection.
Made from 12mm thick 304 grade Stainless steel. The recommended filler to be used when welding exhaust components made from stainless steel is 312. It provides a significant reduction in the potential of cracks forming from vibration and heat cycling.
The more common 304 can be used as well. It is worth noting, regardless of filler type used. The connection must be purged internally with argon to prevent oxidation of the inside of the joint which will lead to fatigue cracks.
